Blood is essential to human life. In medicine, blood transfusions are a significant part of many hospital surgical operations. Before medicine, The ancients understood the necessity of blood for life and attributed blood and life a great deal of symbolic meaning. Blood played key roles in religious and societal rituals. Its purported ‘magical’ properties have stood the test of time.

In fiction, vampires drinking blood was a means of ‘immortality.’ Today, some are convinced that blood may be a key to longevity, and they’re ready to give vampires a run for their money.

Blood and Longevity — Ambrosia
